1. How does this process work, and what can I expect from you?
Our photos and the feelings they elicit in us are so unique. That's why it's important to me to work WITH you to design pages that are customized to YOUR personal taste. Here's an overview of the design process:
  1. Contact me to set up your FREE consultation. During our meeting, you will have the opportunity to look through my sample album and ask any questions you may have. (You proceed only if you're happy with what you see.)

  2. Because these are your pictures and your memories, you may want to give me some insight as to the emotional and physical atmosphere of each event. We'll look through your pictures, organize them, and talk about any ideas you have for your project.

  3. After determining the intricacy of your project and the approximate number of pages it will entail, we will determine a price quote and set a target completion date.

  4. I will then begin construction of your project based on the themes, memorabilia, embellishments, and ideas that we discussed during your initial consult. While working on your project, you can expect that I will work in a timely and professional manner. I will also care for your photos as if they were my own.

  5. Finally, we'll meet again to give you an opportunity to view your finished project. (Your satisfaction is my HIGHEST priority!)

2. How do you determine how much to charge for a project?
I take several things into account when determining the price for a project.  First, I do my best to estimate the amount of time the project will take from start to completion. (On average, one “Intricate Designs” album page takes 3-5 hours to complete.  A personal card usually takes 2 hours, and a bookmark or bag tag typically takes an hour or less).  I also guesstimate the quantity and cost of materials your project will require.  I use many “materials” to create a scrapbooked project.  There are the supplies you can actually see on your project (decorative paper, cardstock, adhesive, brads, fibers, ribbon, buttons, charms and other embellishments, paint, stickers, pens, ink, etc.) and the others that are just used during the creation process (scissors and other cutting tools, computer software and ink, stamps, embossing tools, die cutting machines and dies, punches, etc.).  I also consider the complexity of the project, and whether you not you need a rushed completion.

3. What are archival quality, photo safe, acid free, and lignin free materials?
"Archival quality" and "photo safe" are terms used to describe products that are free from damaging agents that cause yellowing, fading, and damage to your pictures.

One of those damaging agents is acid. I'm sure you've seen those "magnetic" photo albums that allow you to pull a clear page protector back and place your pictures directly on a self-adhesive page. Well, the adhesive used in some of those albums is NOT acid free and will cause irreversible damage to your pictures in as little as 5-10 years. All products used to create your scrapbook and/or store your photos should be "acid free," meaning they have a pH of 7 to 8.5.

Another damaging agent is lignin. Lignin is an organic substance that holds the wood fibers together in trees. It's found in some paper and paper products and can damage and turn your pictures yellow over time. If you've ever saved a newspaper article and it turned yellow in just a few years, you've seen the damaging effects of lignin first hand.

ALL products used to construct your scrapbooking project should be photo safe, acid free, and lignin free. This includes everything from paper, pens, and adhesives to embellishments, stickers, and page protectors. By using products that meet these standards, I'll help ensure that your photos will be preserved for generations to come.

4. How long does it take to complete an album, framed layout, or card?
During our initial visit, we will determine the magnitude and complexity of your project and set a target completion date. A framed layout or card can generally be completed within 1-3 days. However, a 20 page album may take anywhere from 4-8 weeks. If you have a situation that requires that a project be completed quickly, to meet a certain date, I will make every effort to accommodate your needs.

5. How many pictures can I fit on an album page or framed layout?
One of the beautiful things about scrapbooking is that it is non-limiting. You get to choose the size of your photos (3X5, 4X6, 5X7, or 8X10) and whether or not you'd like them cropped (cut/trimmed/altered). You may choose to put one picture per page, or 20+. I know several different layout techniques to make sure that ALL of your favorite pictures are included in your album(s). The numbers below are guidelines based on minimally cropped 3X5 or 4X6 photos.

One 12x12 album page = 4-5 photos
One 8 ½ x 11 album page = 2-3 photos
One 6x6 album page = 1-2
8x10 Framed layout = 1-2

6. What will you need from me at our initial consultation?
All of my customers have different expectations for their projects. Some want to be very involved in the planning and design process, while others rely more on my experience and insight. These are your memories and your personal pictures, and I'd like you to be as involved (or uninvolved) as YOU would like. Here are a few things that you may want to think about prior to our first visit.
  • First, you may want to begin organizing your photos. Think about whether you'd like to arrange them chronologically, by events, or by themes. If you're having difficulty organizing them, don't worry. We will spend most of our time sorting, organizing, and talking about your pictures during your initial consult.

  • Is there anything specific you want to include in your project such as: special memorabilia, exact dates, names of people and places, titles/headings, colors, themes, stickers, embellishments, stories, journaling, quotes, sayings, etc. The more specific you are, the more your project will reflect you and meet your expectations. Remember, I'll make suggestions and walk you through the entire design process step by step. Together we will come up with ideas that will compliment your pictures and help you get the most out of your project.

7. Will I be able to see the pages of my album as they are completed?
Yes! This is your album and I want to make sure you are completely satisfied from beginning to end. If you desire, I will send/e-mail you pictures of your pages as they are completed to give you the opportunity to look them over. If you are dissatisfied with any part of the layout, we can discuss possible modifications at that time. .

8. What if I've already purchased some supplies that I'd like included in my project (stickers, paper, or embellishments)?
I will gladly use any supplies that you would like incorporated into your scrapbooking project, and will deduct a percentage from your total cost. If you're looking to use or purchase specific supplies for your project, remember that it's very important that they be photo safe, acid free, and lignin free. You'll also want to make sure that they fit the theme and style of your album. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your supplies, we can discuss them at your initial consultation.

9. What is journaling?
Journaling is used in scrapbooking to "tell the story" of your pictures. When you're determining what you would like to journal on your album pages, think about the details that you might forget 10-20 years from now. Journaling may include but isn't limited to: a summary or story about the events taking place in your pictures, the names of people, pets, places, specific dates, a poem, a special saying or a suitable quote. A space can be left for you to hand write your journaling in your albums, or they can be typed using a variety of fonts. If you have poor penmanship, you may choose to have them typed. However, hand writing your journaling adds a very sentimental touch to your album. Reading a handwritten letter from someone you care about is more personal and intimate than reading a typed one. Journaling is very important to some people and others may choose not to include any journaling on their pages. It is personal preference and ultimately your decision whether or not you wish to include journaling in your project.

10. What if I don't live in the Seattle metropolitan area?
No problem! We can communicate by telephone, e-mail, and/or standard mail throughout the whole process. I highly recommend using a mail/delivery service that allows you to insure and track your packages. This helps safeguard your photos during shipment. Please see the Remember The Moment Contract for an overview of the terms and conditions for mail delivery.

11. Do you have a contract?
Yes. I make it my highest priority to provide you with professional service and to create a product that you'll absolutely love. The contract ensures that we have the same expectations regarding things such as design, target completion date, estimated cost, and delivery of your project. The contract is completed and signed by both the client and the scrapbook artist at the initial consultation. In addition to a contract, Remember The Moment has a privacy statement. You may choose to share some personal stories and intimate details about yourself, your family and your friends while discussing your pictures during the initial consultation and interview process. You can rest assured that all private stories and information will be kept in the strictest of confidence. Please feel free to view Remember The Moment’s contract and privacy statement here.
